Romayne Shetland Sheepdogs was created by George and Tatsuko Danforth in the late 60s/early 70s. While George was on duty serving in the Navy, he had promised a puppy to his youngest daughter, Michelle. Upon his return home, the first order of business was to deliver on his promise. That puppy was "Princess" ... a pet shop Shetland Sheepdog which ignited a passion in them for the breed ever since. There have been many Romayne greats leaving their imprint on the breed bred through George and Tatsuko and through various collaborations throughout the years. The single most influential Sheltie of Romayne from 1977 maintains his number four position as top producing sire for the breed with 56 champions: Ch. Romayne's Sportin' Life. We have so many others that have been influentual including, Tull E Ho's Love Token, ROM (8 champions), and Ch Beltane Romayne (dam of Sportin' Life).

Daughter, Michelle, dabbled into the show world with her as a youngster but departed to other interests of a young high school girl. In 2004, as she prepared for her sons to go off to college, she began to engage behind the scenes into the world of Shelties and now carries the Romayne name forward on her parents' behalf full speed, cautiously and with pride.

We said good-bye to our beloved mother and wife, Tat, in 2013. George is healthy and strong but has retired from the limelight though takes pride in seeing the accomplishments of Romayne continue through Michelle and her husband, Alan. There was a wonderful article tributing Tat's influence on the breed in the Sheltie International. You can read the interview here: Tatsuko Memorial.

Thank you for getting to know us, and we invite you to look around and discover why this breed has captivated us for over four decades.
